So a photoblog is something that has been on my mind for a couple years now. Ever since I bought my first real camera (Nikon D80), I wanted a medium to share it with the world. Thats where Flickr came in. As great as Flickr was and is, I still wanted something a little different. This past summer I went on a bicycle adventure across the country and one of the many things I learned on that trip was how blogging can be fun. So here it is, my blog. I don't really care how many views I get, because its something I want to do mostly for myself. I'm not sure how it'll be or where I'll go with it, but let just see what happens.
What I want out of photography:
Although right now I'm using photography to capture memories for myself and the people around me. I do dream of a day where I can use this for a lot more. In the summer of 2008 I went to Townsville, Australia to do a Discipleship Training School with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). There, I realized that the world I see and am part of isn't the reality for the majority. Most people live in conditions that seem impossible for us to survive. They have a different understanding of basic needs. The worst part of this is that they're hidden. In far away places where most of us won't ever go.
As part of my outreach during DTS, I had the privilege of traveling to Darwin, Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia. When I came back, I had thousands of pictures capturing the memories of my experiences. More than that though, I had these stories that went along with them. People that never knew about the living conditions of the slums in Jakarta got to see what its like. I was shedding light on all the troubles that this world has swept under the rug. Thats my ultimate goal. I want to give the voiceless a chance to speak up and share their stories. I want to educate people on what the world is like outside of our own. I want to give people the opportunity to do something about it. Finally I want to help fix this broken world, with the help from God (of course)!
